Seasonal Letter 01. Yellow Carpet in the Fields

06/05/2025

Sakura petals in spring.
Refreshing green leaves in summer.
The cup reflects the moonlight in autumn,
and in winter gently melts the snow flakes.

From ancient times, Japanese people have been enjoying the seasonal beauty and following the rythm of nature through a cup of tea.

In the contemporary lifestyle, we are always rushed by something and the time flies in the blink of an eye.

This little series of Toridori's seasonal letter was born to bring — a little spoonful of  —
seasonal beauty and nature's rythm into our life.

The very first letter was written in May, when the spring flowers were at full bloom in the fields near our atelier in Mechelen. The most eye-catching was the vivid yellow flowers of buttercups, or "boterbloem" in Dutch, which was the first Belgian flower I learned at my first summer in Belgium back in 2016. I thought this flower would be the perfect flower for our first seasonal letter.

If your tea time will be a small pauze from daily hustles and to immerse yourself for a little moment in peace to simply enjoy "now", it will be a great joy for us.

TORIDORI SEASONAL LETTER 01.

Yellow Carpet in the Fields

春の野を彩る黄色の絨毯

May 6 - June 13

Hi, friends! How are you doing?

To add a spoonful of seasonality in your cup, I am writing a small seasonal letter for you.

This month features buttercup (boterbloem) and narrow leaved plantain (smalle weegbree). These are maybe weeds, but the view of their flowers covering the fields and river banks under blue sky is really beautiful.
